It is my second night at the hospital while I write this post. I had to bring my son to the ER after being diagnosed with Pneumonia. We came in after 12 days of fever and seven days with antibiotics. After coming to the ER, we got to know that he had pneumonia called Walking Pneumonia, which generally happens with bacteria called Mycoplasma. The antibiotic didn’t work for this bacteria and got worse over time.
This post is not about medical advice, but we will discuss what you must pack in a hospital bag for yourself(mom), your caretaker, your dad, and your child if you stay for a day or two.

What to pack in a hospital bag for a mom and a sick child
Here is the list of things you may need to stay at the hospital for a day or more.
Things that your child may need are:
Your child may wear weather-appropriate shorts/trousers or underwear under the gown.
Slippers and non-slip socks for him or her you might need.
Body deodorant for a teenage child
Chapstick or lip balm for dry lips because of dehydration.
Body wash for showers if providers allow them to take a shower.
Your child might need an iPad or game while they stay at the hospital to pass the time more quickly.
Keeping hand games is not a good idea for them since they have IVs and cannot do much with both hands simultaneously.
Weather-appropriate going-home outfit.
Individually packaged bread has a longer shelf life and lots of snacks, gatorade, and water bottles. Some fruits if you have them handy when you leave for the hospital. Your child may not have much appetite in a moment, but eventually, as your child starts feeling better after treatment, they may want to eat something particular, if not everything.
What moms need for hospital bag to stay with a child
A pair of slippers and a pair of no-slip socks.
Blanket or a pillow if you care about keeping your own.
water bottles
Don’t forget your everyday sunscreen, toiletries, and very minimal basic make-up essentials.
Hair ties or clips, lip balm
You and your child may get a toothbrush from the hospital room, but you can still keep your own with preferred toothpaste.
Undergarments and change of outfit
Your laptop, charger, phone charger.
Water bottles and some snacks.
Although hospitals have coffee stations, I would like to have my tea. Always Keep your preferred flavor of tea or coffee if you want to make it at the hospital for some early morning fuel.
Disinfecting spray or wipes to disinfect some areas if you have to. After all, it’s a hospital anyway.
Comfy outfit to roam around and also a Going-home outfit
A nighttime outfit to stay comfy.
